Answers about our services, fees, booking process, changes and cancellations, and traveling by train in the US.
About Us
Who is Perfect Destination?
Perfect Destination is an independent third-party travel agency that helps travelers plan and book train travel within the United States. We are not a rail carrier.
Are you affiliated with Amtrak or any railroad?
No. We are not owned by, affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Amtrak® or any other rail carrier, airline, or government agency. Any carrier names on this site are used only to identify services.
Can I book directly with the rail carrier instead?
Yes. Tickets can always be purchased directly from the carrier through its own website, app, phone line or station ticket office. Travelers choose us when they prefer personal, one-on-one assistance.
What are your hours?
Our specialists are available by phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays.
Booking & Fees
Do you charge a service fee?
Yes. We charge a service fee for our booking assistance in addition to the carrier's fare. The fee amount is clearly communicated to you and must be approved by you before any payment is processed.
Is the fare you quote the same as the carrier's fare?
We quote the fare offered by the carrier at the time of booking and show our service fee separately, so you can see the complete cost.
How will I receive my ticket?
Once your booking is confirmed, you'll receive your confirmation and e-ticket details by email. You can show the e-ticket on your phone or print it.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept major credit and debit cards. Payment is processed only after you review and approve the full amount.
How far in advance should I book?
Booking early is recommended, especially for holidays, weekends and sleeper rooms, as fares often rise as trains fill up.
Changes, Cancellations & Refunds
Can you help me change my train reservation?
Yes. We can review your booking and explain the carrier's change rules for your fare type. Any fare difference or carrier change fee is set by the carrier.
How do cancellations and refunds work?
Refund eligibility depends entirely on the carrier's fare rules — some fares are refundable, others offer travel credit or are non-refundable. See our Cancellation & Refund Policy for how our service fee is handled.
How long do refunds take?
Carrier refunds follow the carrier's own timelines. Refunds of our service fee, when applicable, are typically processed within 7–14 business days to the original payment method.
Traveling by Train
How early should I arrive at the station?
We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before departure, and about 60 minutes early if you are checking baggage or need boarding assistance.
Do I need ID to travel by train?
Carry a valid government-issued photo ID. Conductors may ask to see it together with your ticket.
How much luggage can I bring?
Allowances are generally more generous than on airlines, but limits apply and vary by carrier and route. A specialist can confirm the rules for your trip.
Are sleeper rooms available?
Yes, most long-distance overnight trains offer private roomettes and bedrooms, and meals are included on many routes. Availability is limited.
Can you arrange accessibility assistance?
Yes. Let us know about any accessibility needs and we'll request accessible seating, rooms or boarding assistance with your reservation where available.
